Thingyan holiday bookings hit 75% in Ngwehsaung, Chaungtha




ABOUT 75 per cent of hotel rooms at Ngweh­saung and Chaungtha have already been booked in advance during the nine-day holiday of the Thingyan period, according to the Ayeyawady Re­gion Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.


In Ayeyawady Region, there are 126 hotels and guest­houses with a total of 5,475 rooms licensed by the Min­istry of Hotels and Tourism, whereas 443 guesthouses with 6,813 rooms are licensed by the development committee, total­ling 6,813 rooms. Meanwhile, a total of 12,088 rooms of 5,069 hotels, guesthouses and lodges are ready for visitors during the Thingyan period.


The region welcomed more than 1.9 million domestic and international visitors between January and December 2024, and over 1.5 million visitors during the same period in 2025. From January to 31 March 2026, more than 690,000 visitors have arrived. During this early period of this year, more than 220,000 visitors visited Ngwe­hsaung beach, whereas more than 160,000 to Chaungtha and Shwethaungyan.


“We are ready to warmly welcome travellers who will come to relax at the beaches during the upcoming Thingyan holiday. Hotels in Ngwehsaung and Chaungtha are prepared to provide the best services. Our department has also conduct­ed advanced training for hotel staff. We are working together to ensure the beaches remain clean, beautiful, and sustaina­ble. Nearly 75 per cent of hotels and guesthouses have already been booked for the Thingyan period. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful holiday by the sea and will be treated with traditional Thingyan delicacies such as Mote Lone Yay Paw, Mote Let Hsaung, Sagu, and other festive foods prepared by hotels and guesthouses,” said U Aung Thu Oo, director of the department.


During the last Thingyan festival, Ngwehsaung, Chaung­tha, Shwethaungyan, and Gaw­ringyi were crowded with hol­
