National Environmental Lab Project (Phase I) Opens

THE opening ceremony of the “National Environmental
Laboratory Construction Project (Phase I),” to be implemented in Nay Pyi Taw
Union Territory with funding from the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund
(2025), was held yesterday morning at the Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental
Conservation U Hsan Oo spoke on occasion that the National Environmental
Laboratory Construction Project (Phase I) aims to prevent environmental
pollution, analyze and assess air, water, and soil quality, enhance staff
capacity, and collect baseline data for the development and establishment of
national environmental quality standards, noting that to maintain good
environmental conditions it is imperative to establish an environmental
laboratory capable of conducting systematic analyses based on reliable data,
and that the project to construct a national environmental laboratory will
significantly contribute to the effective implementation of environmental
conservation activities in Myanmar.
He added that the second and third phases of the project
would proceed as scheduled and expressed his sincere gratitude to the
government of the People’s Republic of China, officials from the Embassy of the
People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the
Mekong-Lancang Cooperation programme, and all relevant officials for their
comprehensive support and assistance in the successful implementation of the
project.
Afterwards, Minister Counsellor Dr Zheng Zhihong of the
People’s Republic of China, and Vice-Chair of the LMC National Coordination
Unit (Myanmar), U Aung Kyaw Moe, delivered speeches.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister for Natural
Resources and Environmental Conservation Dr Thaung Naing Oo, and relevant
officials, as well as officials from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of
