55 Acres of Summer Paddy Cultivated in Nyaung U Township

Nyaung U, May 26

A total of 55 acres of summer paddy have been cultivated using the Thugaung Tay River Irrigation System in Nyaung U Township, Mandalay Region, according to the Township Agriculture Department.

Seedlings for the summer paddy season were planted in March and transplanted to the fields in early April. Farmers are growing rice varieties including Sin Thukha, Manaw Thukha, GW-11, and Aung Naing Toe. The crops typically mature within five months.

Farmers using the river irrigation system pay K6,000 per acre in irrigation fees until harvest. Seasonal fees are K9,000 for paddy cultivation and K3,000 for other crops.

Local farmers said the river irrigation system provides affordable water access and supports good crop yields.—Dipali
