EV usage rises among urban community
THE use of electric vehicle (EV) has increased among the urban community, said U Kyaw Tun Myint, general secretary of the Myanmar Automobile Manufacturers and Distributors Association (MAMDA).
Upon EV roadmaps and local driving restriction depending on licence plate number (even and odd system), the expensive EV market has increased again, with buying and selling prices returning to former levels.
“The use of EVs has increased more than before. Suppose about 50 per cent of urban population are interested in EVs in the past, but now nearly 80 per cent of them are using EVs. The fuel crisis is a factor too and at the same time, a roadmap is already set by the leading company– when EV import allows, when SKB and CKD starts. So, the public interest in EVs increases day after day,” he said.
EV prices range from a minimum of K50-K100 million to a maximum of K600-K700 million. The worldwide market has also rapidly developed and it is still fine if people are not interested in EV for now, but it will be a challenge for urban population if they still neglect EVs in next three to four years, he added. — MT/ZS
