Magway targets 88,000 acres of GAP farming in 2026-27 Season
THE Magway Region Department of Agriculture has announced that it is targeting the cultivation of 88,000 acres under the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) system during the cultivation season of the 2026-2027 financial year.
In Magway Region, the widespread implementation of GAP-based cultivation for oil crops began in the 2017-2018 financial year. During the 2025-2026 financial year, a total of 78,384 acres covering nine crop varieties were cultivated under the GAP system.
For the current cultivation season, authorities are planning to cultivate a total of 88,000 acres of 10 crop varieties using the GAP system.
Crops produced under the GAP system are of higher quality and can generate greater economic benefits, while also ensuring cleaner and fresher food products.
At present, farmers across Magway Region are cultivating crops using the GAP system. Since the system not only improves crop yields but also enhances market opportunities, interest in GAP-based cultivation and production has reportedly increased year by year.
Magway Region has more than 6.4 million acres of mixed crop plantations, including over 2.7 million acres devoted to oil crops such as groundnuts, sesame and sunflower. — ASH/KNN
