Myanmar lose opening match to Saudi Arabia in AFC U17 Asian Cup




THE AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 group stage began on 5 May in Saudi Arabia, where the Myanmar U17 national foot­ball team suffered a heavy defeat to the host nation in their opening Group A match.


Saudi Arabia defeated Myanmar 4-0, while in other Group A fixtures, Tajikistan beat Thailand 2-0. In Group B matches, Japan defeated Qatar 3-1, and Indonesia edged China 1-0.


Myanmar started the match under pressure as Saudi Arabia took an early lead through Alimaki in three minutes. The host team maintained control and doubled their advantage in 23 minutes through the same player, ending the first half 2-0 ahead.



In the second half, Saudi Arabia was awarded two penalties. Myanmar goalkeeper Htet Wai Yan saved the first attempt, but the rebound resulted in a goal. Further goals were scored by Faris in 58 minutes and Dawasari in 74 minutes, sealing a 4-0 victory.
