Myanmar nationals in distress in Iraq safely repatriated with embassy assistance
THE Myanmar Government is making
arrangements to ensure that Myanmar citizens living abroad can return home
safely and as quickly as possible whenever they encounter difficulties overseas,
by coordinating through Myanmar embassies and consulate-general with the
relevant countries, as part of its commitment to valuing and protecting its
citizens under all circumstances.
As part of these efforts, the Myanmar
Embassy in Cairo coordinated with Iraqi Government agencies and the
International Organization for Migration (IOM) to assist three Myanmar women –
Ma Win Win Aye, Ma Wyne Thitsa and Ma Nwe Ni Myint – who had encountered
difficulties in Iraq, so that they could return to their homeland. The three
departed from Baghdad by air on 6 May and arrived back at Yangon International
Airport at around 8 pm on 7 May.
The government has been assisting
Myanmar nationals facing difficulties while working abroad by arranging their
return to Myanmar through the coordinated support of Myanmar embassies and
consulate-general. The workers and their family members have expressed their
sincere gratitude to the Government, the Myanmar Embassy and the
consulate-general for their assistance and rescue efforts. — Nyein Thu
