Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Impact-Based Forecasting held




THE opening ceremony of the Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Impact-Based Forecasting (IBF) was held in the Multi-Hazard Early Warn­ing Centre, Nay Pyi Taw, or­ganized by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), Ministry of Transport, yesterday.


At the opening ceremo­ny, Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Direc­tor-General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrolo­gy, delivered the opening re­marks.


Departmental represent­atives from Disaster Manage­ment, Public Health, Agricul­ture and other related sectors, partner organizations and offi­cials from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology attended the workshop with a total of about 50 participants. In addition, technical experts from RIMES and the UK Met Office participated virtually in the discussions.


During the Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Impact-Based Forecasting (IBF) for Temperature-Relat­ed Hazards, discussions were conducted on Impact Thresh­olds for temperature-related hazards and Action Triggers to be undertaken by relevant sectors. The participants also discussed Lead Time for issu­ing Impact-Based Forecasts (IBF) and sectoral coordina­tion mechanisms. In addition, sector-wise discussions were carried out on the potential impacts of temperature-relat­ed hazards on public health, agriculture, disaster man­agement and socio-economic sectors. Vulnerable groups and exposed resources were identified, and Exposure and Vulnerability data related to temperature-related hazards were shared and discussed for integrated utilization and coordination. — DMH
