UMFCCI hosts Myanmar Climate-Smart Rice & Carbon Initiative Workshop




THE Myanmar Climate-Smart Rice & Carbon Initiative Work­shop took place at the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Feder­ation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Lanmadaw Town­ship on 9 May.


The workshop aimed to pro­mote practical implementation of carbon markets and opportuni­ties in Myanmar. Green & Blue VCM Carbon Initiative led the event in cooperation with eight representatives who attended the training at the Mekong Institute.


Participants shared knowl­edge on carbon markets, carbon credits, market opportunities, future prospects and potential carbon opportunities in the rice sector.


According to the carbon credit market, global carbon markets could reach US$1 tril­lion by 2040, while Myanmar has the fourth-highest nature-based carbon reduction potential in ASEAN, with an estimated po­tential of up to 94 megatonnes. — ASH/KZL
