India Donates Quake Assessment Gear to Myanmar Engineers




THE handover ceremony for equipment provided by the Republic of India to the Federation of Myan­mar Engineering Socie­ties was held yesterday at the function hall of the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies in Hlaing Township, Yangon.


President U Khin Maung Htay of the Fed­eration of Myanmar En­gineering Societies deliv­ered a welcome address, followed by Indian Ambas­sador Mr Abhay Thakur, who gave a speech and formally handed over the equipment and related documents to the Pres­ident of the Federation.

This was followed by a concluding speech by U Nyunt Maung San, Chairman of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee under the Federation of Myanmar Engineering So­cieties, who also inspected the display of equipment used for assessing the structural strength of earthquake-prone build­ings.


The Republic of In­dia’s first donation in March 2026 comprised 11 types of equipment and instruments for pre- and post-disaster building as­sessments, valued at over 20 million rupees. The second donation, handed over yesterday, included seismometers, concrete penetration testers, ther­mal imaging cameras, and structural health monitoring equipment and instruments, valued at over 17.75 million ru­pees. — MNA/MKKS
