Tatmadaw regains control of strategic Sagaing village

TATMADAW has reportedly regained control of Ngalontin Village in ChaungU Township, Sagaing Region, following a multi-day offensive against PDF terrorists who had been using the village as a base.

According to reports, the village, located along the ChaungU-Yesagyo road south of ChaungU, had been used as a staging area for attacks and other insurgent activities targeting the Monywa-Sagaing and ChaungU-Yesagyo transport routes.

Authorities said the insurgents had occupied residential buildings, religious structures and schools, where they constructed defensive bunkers and established positions. They were also accused of disrupting transport routes, extorting vehicles and obstructing the movement of goods and passengers.

Tatmadaw launched a counter-terrorism campaign on 5 June, advancing from ChaungU and conducting operations in several locations. They recaptured Hmancho village on 6 June, followed by Gugyi Monastery and Sinmyae village on 8 June, before retaking Ngalontin Village and surrounding areas on 9 June.

During the fighting, security forces reportedly recovered two bodies, four weapons, one improvised fixed-wing drone and related equipment. Insurgents were said to have withdrawn after sustaining casualties.

Authorities stated that further activities, including the removal of explosives and the rehabilitation of damaged areas, are planned in cooperation with residents, while security measures in the area have been strengthened. — MNA/KZL
