Myanmar hosts 38th Myanmar-Thailand Regional Border Committee Meeting
THE opening ceremony of the 38th Myanmar-Thailand
Regional Border Committee meeting took place in Kengtung Township, Shan State
(East), on Tuesday.
During the event, Myanmar delegation
leader Maj-Gen Kyaw Lin Maung and Thai delegation leader Lt-Gen Warathep Boonya
made remarks.
During the meeting, the two sides
discussed matters relating to the Myanmar-Thailand border, ongoing and future
bilateral cooperation in preventing and suppressing drug trafficking,
continued government-to-government cooperation to combat the presence of
illegal foreign nationals and online scam and illegal gambling operations in
border areas and sector-wise cooperation in the border areas.
In the evening, Maj- Gen Kyaw Lin Maung
hosted a dinner at the Seinpann Ni Ni Hall in honour of the head of the Thai
delegation, Lt-Gen Warathep Boonya, and members of both delegations attending
the meeting. During the event, the two sides exchanged commemorative gifts.
The second day of the meeting was held
yesterday, and the two leaders approved and signed the meeting agreements, and
delivered speeches.
The delegation leaders exchanged
commemorative plaques representing the two countries.
During their stay in Myanmar to attend
the 38th Myanmar-Thailand
Regional Border Committee meeting, members of the Thai delegation paid homage
to the Maravijaya Buddha Image in Nay Pyi Taw, visited the Memorial to the
Fallen Heroes in Nay Pyi Taw where they laid wreaths in tribute, paid homage at
renowned pagodas in Kengtung, and toured famous landmarks in Nay Pyi Taw and
