Supreme Court announces AI adoption and judicial reform measures
THE Supreme Court of the Union has announced that artificial intelligence (AI) technology is being introduced into the judicial system.
The court stated that the judiciary must not only hear cases fairly and promptly in accordance with the law but also ensure that offenders are not acquitted without punishment, that sentences are proportionate to the offences committed, and that innocent people are not wrongfully convicted, thereby upholding the integrity of the justice system.
It also said effective deterrent penalties would be imposed for offences involving narcotics, human trafficking, online fraud, unlawful groups that threaten the rule of law, and acts endangering national security.
The court will continue to implement awareness programmes and follow relevant laws, rules and procedures to make the court-led mediation system more accessible to the public and raise awareness of proceedings under Myanmar’s copyright laws.
The announcement further stressed that corruption undermines both personal integrity and public confidence in the judiciary, adding that all court personnel will be closely monitored to prevent corruption. — ASH/MKKS
