12 civilians slain in brutal PDF attack
TWELVE civilians, including 10 men and two women, were killed after 25 armed PDF terrorist members allegedly entered Htamagyi Village in Mahlaing Township, Mandalay Region, and opened fire on residents with small arms yesterday morning.
The victims were identified as village administrator U Soe Lin Htike, 44, U Maung Thein, 43, U Chit San Maung, 44, U Bo Thet Lin, 40, U Than Htay Aung, 39, U Wai Yan Soe, 32, U Zaw Khet, 45, U Hein Wunna Zaw, 22, U Win Naing, 44, U Ohn Maung, 63, Daw Khin Mu, 44, and Daw Lae Lae Win, 44.
The armed group arrived in three vehicles and motorcycles, opened fire on the civilians and then left the village by the same route.
Security personnel subsequently inspected the village and found the bodies of the 12 victims. The bodies were transported to Myaing Township Hospital, while security operations were continued in the area.
Such inhumane shooting and killing of innocent civilians is considered a war crime under the Geneva Conventions and international law. The locals have strongly condemned the alleged lawless and violent acts of the PDF terrorists, while security personnel, in cooperation with residents, are continuing necessary security operations to identify, arrest and take action against these offenders. — MNA/KTZH
