121-Year-Old Man, Taninthayi Woman Named Myanmar’s Oldest Living Citizens



A 121-year-old man from Htantabin Township, Yangon Region, and a 121-year-old woman from Kawthoung Township, Taninthayi Region, have been officially identified as Myanmar’s oldest liv­ing male and female citi­zens, according to records from the Ministry of Immi­gration and Population.

 

Official records con­firm that U Than Aung, a resident of Tatywa village in Tetthit village-tract, Htantabin Township, holds the distinction of being the nation’s oldest living man. Daw Pan Nwe, who lives on Paletwin Street in Shwez­inyaw Ward, Kawthoung Township, has been rec­ognized as the country’s oldest living woman.

 

To honour U Than Aung, Yangon Region Chief Minister and regional gov­ernment officials visited his home to pay their respects. They presented him with cash donations totalling K12.1 million, symbolizing his 121 years of age, as well as nutritional supplements and ceremonial gifts.

 

In a similar gesture, Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win visited Daw Phata Mar, a 118-year-old resident of Ward 5 in Myo­hla Town, Yedashe Town­ship, Toungoo District, and paid his respects to her. — ASH/TH
