MRF and Vietnamese firms discuss rice seed collaboration

A delegation from the My­anmar Rice Federation (MRF) explored coopera­tion in rice seed production to accelerate collaboration in the agriculture and seed sectors with two Vietnam­ese seed companies dur­ing the visit to Vietnam between 25 and 31 July.

 

The MRF delegation visited seed processing plants, farms, and research and development facilities during the trip. They also signed some memoranda of understanding (MoUs), according to the MRF. The discussions also covered the exchange of seed and hybridization technolo­gies, training and capaci­ty-building programs, and joint initiatives to boost agricultural productivity.

 

The federation is ac­tively working to produce high-quality aromatic rice varieties with long, slen­der grains that have strong demand and better prices in international markets, as well as production for domestic markets. The private sector is exerting efforts to develop Myan­mar’s seed industry. — ASH/KK
