20 arrested in Muse online scam raid

SECURITY forces ar­rested 20 people al­legedly involved in on­line scams and illegal gambling activities at a house in Kaunghmu­ton Ward, Kaungmulwe area, Muse, Shan State (North), yesterday.

The group com­prised one Chinese na­tional and 19 Myanmar nationals—17 men and two women. Authorities also seized 77 mobile phones, three all-in-one computers, one laptop and other equipment believed to be related to the online operations.

The arrests followed investigations aimed at preventing online scam and illegal gambling groups from establishing operations in the area. Authorities said the sus­pects would face legal ac­tion under existing laws after the investigations were completed, while the seized equipment would be dealt with in accordance with estab­lished procedures.

The government is continuing its efforts, in cooperation with neigh­bouring and regional countries, to prevent on­line scams and illegal on­line gambling operations from being established in Myanmar. — MNA/KZL
