Belarus, Myanmar discuss advancing women’s affairs, future cooperation




FUTURE cooperation and the advancement of women’s affairs between Belarus and Myanmar were discussed at a meeting between Union Minister for Women’s Af­fairs Dr Thet Thet Zin and a delegation led by Ms Olga Chemodanova, Chairperson of the Be­laya Rus Party of Bela­rus.


The meeting was held at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs yester­day afternoon. Dr Thet Thet Zin said that wom­en account for about 53 per cent of Myanmar’s population and that promoting the develop­ment of rural and young women is a priority. She highlighted the imple­mentation of the Nation­al Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women, which focuses on wom­en’s development and the prevention of vio­lence. She further stat­ed that the Ministry of Women’s Affairs was es­tablished to strengthen the capacity of women and girls and promote social security.


She also expressed Myanmar’s willingness to learn from other coun­tries’ experiences in pro­moting women’s devel­opment and preventing violence.


Ms Olga Chemod­anova stressed the need for awareness programmes to educate women about protecting their families and chil­dren and maintaining good health. — MNA/ MKKS
