Military leaders must possess both physical strength and mental resilience

MILITARY leaders must be capable of making correct de­cisions with sound judgement, courage and composure, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo at the meeting with instructors and cadets as well as post-graduate trainees from the Defence Ser­vices Academy and the Defence Services Technological Academy and Tatmadaw members from the military station at the convocation hall of DSA yesterday afternoon.

In giving instructions, the General underlined that as dis­cipline is the backbone of the Tatmadaw, maintaining good dis­cipline will make a good service­man, and when good servicemen come together, they will form a disciplined Tatmadaw.

He noted that leadership skills are extremely important. Only those who have first become good followers, possessing obedi­ence to orders and strong military discipline, can become capable and effective leaders when they assume leadership positions.

In terms of administration, the General outlined that per­sonnel must be commanded and managed fairly and impartially, without discrimination or favourit­ism, and administration must not be carried out inconsistently or selectively. As far as possible, the right person should be assigned to the right position, and administra­tive and logistical support matters must be handled accurately and promptly.

He stated that military lead­ers must be capable of making correct decisions with sound judg­ment, courage and composure. Military leaders need to possess physical and mental capabilities, as well as the ability to think, make sound decisions and formulate strategies.

The General underscored that instructors must be fully com­petent, and it is important to rec­ognize that the quality of trainees will depend on the capabilities of their instructors. Just as officers must be provided with a sound academic education to develop their intellectual and mental capa­bilities, they must also be trained in military skills to a level at which they can perform the duties of a platoon commander. Regardless of the unit in which they serve, they must be prepared on their own side to be capable of combat operations like infantry units.

The General recognized and praised Tatmadaw members from various units in the PyinOoLwin Station who have performed their operations and security duties with dedication and courage dur­ing times of security emergencies, fulfilling their responsibilities in the true spirit of military service without distinction based on their assigned duties.

After the meeting, the Gener­al and his wife and party cordially greeted the instructors, cadets, post-graduate trainees, and other Tatmadaw members.

Also present at the meeting were Daw Nilar, the wife of the General, senior Tatmadaw of­ficers from the Office of the Com­mander-in-Chief, the commander of the Central Command, com­mandants and officials. — MNA/ TTA
