MTSH completes 3.37 MW solar pilot project at Thilawa SEZ
MTSH Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings Public Co Ltd has announced the successful completion and official opening of a 3.37 MW Solar Energy Pilot Project, the company notified on 19 August.
The project was carried out by Thilawa Property Development Limited (TPD), a subsidiary of MTSH, within the Residential & Commercial Area (R&C) of Thilawa Special Economic Zone (Zone A). The pilot project was completed in early 2026 and officially inaugurated on 31 July.
The solar facility is expected to generate approximately 4.73 million kilowatt-hours annually. Of the total output, 2.685 MW (79.67 per cent) will be supplied to industrial users within the SEZ, while 0.688 MW (20.42 per cent) will be distributed through a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to hotels, tenants, and businesses in the R&C area through an on-grid and hybrid operating model under long-term power purchase agreements.
The project is designated for solar generation, battery storage, and electricity distribution within Thilawa Garden City’s R&C area. It is also intended to serve as a model for future solar energy deployment at the SEZ and surrounding industrial facilities. — NN/ KK
