Myanmar, Thailand Discuss Stronger Parliamentary Cooperation



PYITHU Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi met Thai Am­bassador to Myanmar Mr Tor Saralamba in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday to discuss bilateral relations and par­liamentary cooperation.


U Khin Yi highlighted the 78-year diplomatic re­lations between Myanmar and Thailand and called for closer cooperation in combatting transnational crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and online scams, while also promoting bilateral trade and investment.


He also called for greater cooperation be­tween the two countries’ parliaments, including through committees, youth and women’s rep­resentatives, and urged support for the legal rights of Myanmar workers in Thailand.


The Thai ambassa­dor expressed support for closer parliamentary ties and invited U Khin Yi to visit Thailand. He also pledged continued assistance for Myanmar workers and cooperation through the ASEAN In­ter-Parliamentary Assem­bly (AIPA) and Inter-Par­liamentary Union (IPU).


Also present at the call together with the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker were Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn and Hluttaw office officials. — MNA/ST
