Myanmar, Vietnam co-chair 10th Meeting of Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation

U Tin Maung Swe, Un­ion Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Mr Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who was on an official visit to Nay Pyi Taw, co-chaired the 10th Meeting of the Myanmar– Vietnam Joint Commis­sion for Bilateral Coop­eration at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 26 August 2026.

Both sides discussed ways to further strength­en bilateral relations and cooperation in all areas under the framework of the Comprehensive Co­operation Partnership be­tween Myanmar and Viet Nam. Their discussions focused on promoting cooperation in political, defence and security, eco­nomic, trade and invest­ment, transport, informa­tion and communications, education and training, health, science and tech­nology, agriculture, live­stock, culture, tourism, and people-to-people ex­changes. The two sides also exchanged views on developments in their respective countries and discussed ways to pro­vide mutual support and enhance cooperation on regional and international fora.

The Union Minister discussed preparations for commemorative ac­tivities in 2027 to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Myanmar–Vietnam Com­prehensive Cooperation Partnership, as well as cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, including collabo­ration between their dip­lomatic academies. He invited Vietnamese inves­tors to explore investment opportunities in Myan­mar’s technology-focused special economic zones, including the Yadanapon Cyber City Project, and encouraged cooperation in technology-based man­ufacturing. He noted that, as Myanmar currently holds the Chairman­ship of Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Econom­ic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and Vietnam is serving as the Chair of Cambodia-Lao PDR- My­anmar- Vietnam (CLMV), the two countries would continue to cooperate closely within these re­gional cooperation frame­works. He also reaffirmed Myanmar’s efforts to fur­ther strengthen its rela­tions with ASEAN through a Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led approach, while expressing appre­ciation to Vietnam and other ASEAN Member States for their construc­tive engagement regard­ing Myanmar’s political developments.

The Vietnamese For­eign Minister congratulat­ed the successful holding of elections in Myanmar. He appraised that Viet­nam had successfully convened the 14th National Congress of the Commu­nist Party of Vietnam and adopted its political and economic strategies, not­ing that this is an oppor­tune time for both coun­tries to further elevate bilateral relations and co­operation. He expressed Vietnam’s interest in further strengthening cooperation in bilateral relations, trade and in­vestment, people-to-peo­ple exchanges as well as regional and internation­al cooperation and reaf­firmed Vietnam’s com­mitment in supporting Myanmar’s full and equal participation in ASEAN, the United Nations and other international fora. He also expressed Viet Nam’s support for Myan­mar’s continued efforts towards peace, stability, national reconciliation and socio-economic devel­opment. He underscored Vietnam’s commitment to further strengthening close cooperation with Myanmar in regional and international contexts, in­cluding ASEAN, ACMECS and CLMV.

Following the meet­ing, the two Foreign Min­isters signed the Agreed Minutes of the 10th Meet­ing of the Myanmar–Vi­etnam Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

Officials from the Ministries of Foreign Af­fairs and relevant minis­tries of Myanmar and Vi­etnam were also present at the meeting.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister hosted a luncheon in honour of the Vietnamese Foreign Min­ister and members of his delegation. — MoFA
