Relief operations underway in Ayeyawady Region
HEAVY rainfall and riverbank erosion on
the night of 30 July 2026 caused flooding in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady
Region.
Floodwaters entered five wards in
Laymyethna and 72 surrounding villages. In addition, 26 villages in Hinthada
Township, six villages in Yekyi Township and two villages in Kyonpyaw Township
were affected, bringing the total number of flood-affected villages to 106.
Flood relief camps have been opened at
13 locations in Laymyethna Township, three in Hinthada Township, five in Yekyi
Township and one in Kyonpyaw Township. Members of the local Tatmadaw units
under the South-West Command and the Myanmar Police Force, firefighters,
social rescue organizations, charitable groups and local ethnic communities
have joined forces to assist flood victims.
Relief efforts include search and rescue
operations, helping residents move their belongings to safer locations,
delivering food supplies and providing necessary healthcare services to those
