Rice export zone farmers receive cultivation support

FARMERS participating in rice export zones in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area received cultivation funds and agricultural machinery at a ceremony held at the Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corporation (MAPCO) Group rice mill and rice bran oil mill compound in Pyinmana Township on 15 August.

Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Myo Zaw Thein said the rice export zones aim to increase high-quality rice production for overseas markets, improve farmers’ yields and incomes, boost foreign exchange earnings through rice exports and develop the value chain from cultivation to export.

Under the government’s economic development fund, K250,000 is provided per acre for rice cultivation. Accordingly, 522 farmers from 10 villages in five townships received a total of K560 million for 2,800 acres, along with seeders.

Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr Charlie Than and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Ye Tint Tun also delivered remarks. MAPCO Group Chairman U Ye Min Aung explained the group’s current operations.

After the ceremony, officials inspected agricultural machinery and farm input displays, factory exhibition halls and the renovation of a 240-tonne rice mill. — TWA/KZL
