Six Schools Closed Due to Floodwaters from Myitmakha River in Minhla Township

Minhla, August 17

Six basic education schools in Minhla Township were temporarily closed on the morning of August 17 after floodwaters from the Myitmakha River, a tributary of the Irrawaddy River, entered school compounds amid rising river levels caused by continuous rainfall.

The affected schools are Shwe Laung Basic Education High School (B.E.H.S.), Di Hlaing Basic Education Post-Primary School (B.E.P.S.), Sunlang Kone Basic Education Primary School (B.E.P.S.), Sin Ku B.E.P.S., Pauk Chaung B.E.P.S., and Taung Po Gyi B.E.P.S.

The schools were temporarily closed as floodwaters made it difficult and potentially dangerous for teachers and students to travel to and attend classes.

Arrangements have also been made to conduct make-up classes on Sundays if water levels recede and normal schooling can resume.— Pauk Sa (Minhla)
