Kyunhla Township Plants over 30,000 Acres of Rain-fed Paddy
Kyunhla, August 17
More than 30,000 acres of rain-fed paddy have been planted in Kyunhla Township, Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region, this rainy season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
The township has set a target of 35,696 acres for rain-fed paddy cultivation, of which 31,940 acres have been planted so far. Planting began in early June, with farmers using water from streams, canals and groundwater. Following recent rainfall, farmers are continuing to plant paddy.
“To achieve the target yield, we are providing quality seeds, conducting field demonstrations on proper planting methods, and educating farmers on pest and disease prevention and proper harvesting techniques,” said Daw Myint Myint Yee, head of the Township Agriculture Department.
Farmers in Kyunhla are cultivating locally suitable rice varieties, including Ayeyarmin, Manawthukha, Sinthukha, Shwethweyin, Chanmyaymay and Aungnaingtoe, which are expected to produce good yields during this rainy season.—Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
