Tatmadaw columns arrest 23 telecom fraudsters in Shan State (South)



THE Government is taking measures to combat online fraud and gambling, which threaten global socioeco­nomic stability and national security. Action is being tak­en against those operating in border areas, as well as those committing such of­fences domestically. As part of these efforts, Tatmadaw columns arrested 23 Chi­nese nationals involved in online gambling in Ke­hsi Township, Shan State (South).


According to resi­dents, people involved in online gambling had been operating from temporary structures in the area. Tat­madaw troops conducting security operations inten­sified their investigations and operations against such activities.


Yesterday morning, 10 Chinese nationals who had illegally crossed the border into Myanmar to operate online gambling businesses were arrested at a location about 9,900 metres north of Wamphun village and 2,900 metres north-east of Ponlon village in Kehsi Township.


The troops seized two temporary shelters, a workshop shelter, a kitch­en shelter, four Starlink sets, 26 mobile phones, two tablets, a laptop, eight network extension boxes, 12 Wi-Fi devices, four cash machines, a large genera­tor, two refrigerators and related equipment.


The security opera­tions continued, resulting in the arrest of six more Chinese nationals about 3,000 metres north-west of Ponlon village and seven others about 3,900 metres north of Ponlon village. The total number of Chinese na­tionals arrested in connec­tion with online gambling activities therefore reached 23.


Following the comple­tion of investigations, legal action will be taken against the arrested individuals in accordance with exist­ing laws, while the seized equipment will be dealt with in accordance with procedures. Authorities will also systematically de­molish illegally constructed residential and commercial structures and continue efforts to eradicate online gambling and fraud activ­ities in the area. — MNA/ MKKS
