Yangon draw champions Shan in M League opener
THE final matches of Matchday 1 in the 2026 2027 Grand Royal M League season were held on 30 August, with Yangon City drawing 2-2 against defending champions Shan United, while Yangon United defeated Sagaing United 2-0 with two late goals.
At Padetha Stadium, Shan United took a 2-0 lead in the first half through Mo Wusu and an own goal by Yangon City defender Hayuki. Yangon City fought back after the break, with Aung Kaung Mann scoring from a corner in the 65th minute before Tasuchiya equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Both teams finished with 10 players after Shan United midfielder Kyaw Min Oo and Yangon City forward Aung Kaung Marn were sent off with direct red cards.
At YUSC Stadium, Yangon United secured all three points against Sagaing United with late goals from Maung Maung Lwin in the 86th minute and Mustafa in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Yangon City midfielder Myat Kaung Khant and Yangon United forward Maung Maung Lwin were named AYA Pay Players of the Match and each received K1 million in prize money. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
