China-Myanmar tourism development seminar, Yunnan cultural showcase in Yangon
A China-Myanmar tourism development seminar and a Yunnan Province culture and tourism introduction event took place yesterday at the China Cultural Centre in Yangon, aiming to boost bilateral cooperation in culture and tourism ahead of the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.
The event, themed “Building a Corridor with Tea, Towards a Future of Cultural Tourism,” was coorganized by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Yangon China Cultural Centre, and the China-Myanmar Economic Cooperation and Development Promotion Association.
Counsellor Mr Li Qianguo of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar and Director-General U Aung Aye Han of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism, and Mr Han Jiajun, head of the Yangon China Cultural Centre, delivered the opening remarks
Mr Li Qianguo noted that neighbouring Myanmar is actively working to develop its tourism sector. This year, Yangon has hosted various tourism exhibitions and exchange events, and the number of tourists from China and other countries has been increasing. However, there are still many difficulties and challenges hindering tourism development, requiring joint efforts from the government and stakeholders across all sectors.
Chinese government tourism authorities unveiled the 15th Five-Year Plan to become a Tourism Powerhouse and the 15th Five-Year Plan for Cultural and Tourism Development in July and September this year, setting out clear goals, responsibilities, and pathways for building a culturally strong and tourismdeveloped nation. He expressed his hope that in the coming five years, China-Myanmar tourism cooperation will embrace many good opportunities and achieve mutual success, he added.
The seminar continued with music and dance performances. Attendees also viewed tourism information displays and handicraft exhibits at the venue. — TWA/KK
