Mon State, Yangon Region claim overall Sepak Takraw titles




MON State won the women’s overall cham­pionship trophy with two gold medals, while Yan­gon Region claimed the men’s overall champion­ship trophy with one gold and one silver at the 2026 Inter-State and Region Sepak Takraw Champi­onship.


The tournament, jointly organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Education under the Ministry of Sports and the Myan­mar Sepak Takraw Fed­eration, was held from 24 August to 2 September at Gymnasium A of the Wunna Theikdhi Sports Complex in Nay Pyi Taw. The final matches began at 2 pm on 2 September.


In the women’s quadrant team final, Mon State defeated Ay­eyawady Region 2–0, while Yangon Region beat Mandalay Region 2–0 in the men’s final.


In the women’s dou­bles team event, Mon State finished first, fol­lowed by Magway Region and Rakhine State. In the men’s event, Mon State took first place, followed by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory and Sagaing Region.


Ayeyawady Region won the women’s regu team event, with Sagaing Region second and Bago Region third. In the men’s event, Sagaing Region finished first, fol­lowed by Yangon Region and Kayin State.


In the women’s quadrant team event, Mon State won gold, Ayeyawady Region sil­ver and Yangon Region bronze. In the men’s event, Yangon Region took gold, Mandalay Region silver and Bago Region bronze.


Phyo Sanda Aung from Ayeyawady Region received the Most Im­proved Female Athlete award, while Zin Myo Htet of Mandalay Region won the Most Improved Male Athlete award. Nan Khine Thazin of Mon State received the Best Athlete award.


Mon State was pre­sented with the women’s overall championship trophy after winning two gold medals, while Yangon Region received the men’s overall cham­pionship trophy after se­curing one gold and one silver. — MNA/KZL
