Myanmar women’s football team departs for 2026 Asian Games in Japan



MYANMAR’S national women’s football team left for Japan on yester­day evening to compete in the women’s football tour­nament at the XX Asian Games 2026.

 

Head coach Colin Bell announced his final 23-player squad on 9 Sep­tember. Yangon United winger Yoon Wady Hlaing, Thitsar Arman midfield­er Khin Mo Mo Tun and Ayeyawady FC defender Nan Phyu Phway missed out through injury. Ay­eyawady FC forward San Thaw Thaw also returned to the national team after the AFC Women’s Cham­pions League qualifiers but was later released for medical treatment as her long-standing injury had not fully healed.

 

Myanmar are in Group B with South Ko­rea, North Korea and Bangladesh, with all their group matches scheduled at Nagai Stadium in Osa­ka.

 

Myanmar will face South Korea at 5 pm My­anmar Standard Time on 14 September, North Korea at 5 pm on 17 Sep­tember and Bangladesh at 1:30 pm on 21 September.

 

The women’s football tournament features 12 teams divided into three groups. The top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals, making eight teams in total. — Htun Htun/KZL
