NSPNC, NCA-S EAOs hold second-day meeting



THE second-day meeting between the National Sol­idarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the nego­tiation team of the signa­tories to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA-S EAOs) was held yesterday morning at the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Centre in Yangon.


Subsequently, NSP­NC Member Lt-Gen Khin Zaw Oo (Retired) ex­plained and discussed the framework for reconnect­ing diverse stakeholders within the peace process.


Continuing discus­sions on the remaining agenda items from the first day, both sides dis­cussed the implementa­tion of the peace process based on the essence of the NCA, defining a com­mon political framework to accommodate the differing objectives and aspirations of EAOs in im­plementing a single peace process and building national reconciliation, connecting local commu­nities, civil society organi­zations, youth and women with the peace process, and strengthening con­fidence-building through credible and mutually accepted linkages to im­prove relations among diverse stakeholders.


Following this, NSP­NC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing briefed attendees on the NSPNC’s efforts to promote national sol­idarity and peace, and discussed the continued implementation of consol­idated positions emerg­ing from the two-day dis­cussions, as well as the holding of more effective meetings to reach con­crete agreements.


The two-day negotia­tions were then formally concluded, with both sides signing and document­ing mutual agreements and common positions on the following points: modalities for future en­gagements between the NSPNC and NCA-S EAOs, the formation of commit­tees to carry out regional peace, stability and devel­opment tasks, the partic­ipation and cooperation of respective NCA-S EAO groups in holding public discussions and forums across regions and states, encouraging all ethnic armed organizations to rejoin the peace process, continuously implement­ing the peace process based on the essence of the NCA, stepping up confidence-building measures, and matters concerning humanitarian assistance.


Finally, NCA-S EAO negotiation team leader and RCSS Secretary 1 Sao Sai Ngeng and NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae delivered closing remarks, and the meeting was successfully conclud­ed, according to reports. — MNA/TH
