Over 10,000 Acres of Winter Sesame Earmarked for Cultivation in Paungde Township
Paungde, October 30
A total of 10,398 acres of winter sesame, an oilseed crop, has been earmarked for cultivation in the upcoming winter cropping season in Paungde Township, Bago Region, according to the Township Land Records Department and the Department of Agriculture.
Farmers in the hilly areas at the foothills of the Bago Yoma in the northeastern part of the township traditionally rely on sesame cultivation as their main livelihood. These areas account for the largest sesame-growing acreage in the township.
As the upland areas are cooler than the plains, farmers can start planting winter sesame earlier. So far, approximately 7,710 acres have already been planted, according to local sources.—Shwe Thar (IPRD)
