Traffic offenders face legal consequences

THE Yangon Region Traffic Police Corps 2 stated that 35 people have been arrested for illegally crossing the road in the past two days, in enforcing the rules of crossing at designated footbridges, underpasses, zebra crossings and crossing points and taking action against those who cross illegally within the municipal areas.

The Yangon Region Road Safety Council jointly arrested 10 men and 9 women for crossing the road under the Sule footbridges on 12 October as well as 13 men and 3 women on 13 October under Section 96 of the 2020 Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Law.

“We are not for show. We are working to improve traffic safety and public safety. We would like to thank those who have supported traffic safety on social media for this initiative. We urge pedestrians to follow the rules and regulations so that their lives and vehicles are not at risk. We will expand the operation beyond the current team,” said Deputy Police Major Moe Win of the Traffic Police Task Force in Kyauktada Township.

In Yangon, pedestrian footbridges are frequently used by large numbers of commuters every day. Vehicles passing by are currently able to drive with attention to the traffic lights, and drivers under the bridges can drive with peace of mind as travellers on the bridges of Sule, Pansodan, and Botahtaung Pagoda. — Thitsa (MNA)/MKKS
