Kachin State Builds First Animal Feed and Hatchery Facilities to Bolster Food Security
TO stabilize local commodity prices and secure meat, fish, and egg supplies, Kachin State is constructing its first five-tonne-per-hour animal feed mill alongside a commercial hatchery capable of producing over 200,000 chicks per month. The facilities are being developed by KT Company on a 2.5-acre site in Shwepyitha Ward, Myitkyina, with state government backing.
Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan inspected the construction progress on 31 October, touring the finished feed storage, hatchery building, mixing plants, and on-site testing laboratories. The Chief Minister coordinated with state officials to resolve supply needs and maintain construction timelines.
Once operational, the feed mill will produce over 40 tonnes of pelleted livestock and aquaculture feed, as well as 80 tonnes of feed powder, per eight-hour shift. The hatchery will initially yield nearly 80,000 chicks monthly using eggs from Mandalay and Sagaing, before scaling past 200,000 once a dedicated breeder farm is completed in Mawphaung Village. The project aims to eliminate regional feed and chick supply bottlenecks caused by transport disruptions.
During his inspection tour, the Chief Minister also visited a 60,000-bird broiler farm in Pyihtaung Village and commercial fish breeding ponds in Palana-5 to encourage expansion efforts in line with the forthcoming feed and chick supplies. — State IPRD/ST
