New Mingala market expected to open in November

NEW modern Mingala Market located in Yangon Region’s Mingala Taung­nyunt Township is being planned to open in Novem­ber, after reconstruction works completed, accord­ing to the Yangon City Development Committee.Opening is expected to be 1-5 November, and current­ly, shop relocations have been allowed as of 28 Oc­tober, said a shop owner.

“Exact date for open­ing is still unknown, but it’s sure it will be in Novem­ber first week. At present, shop owners have made preparations inside the new building,” said a shop owner. It is an eight-storey building, initial owners will be allocated for four floors and the construction com­pany will receive the rest four floors, according to a source close to YCDC.

At the market, 4,067 YCDC-owned shops will need to reopen and shop owners will be re-allocat­ed according to their in­itial shop numbers. The old building of the market caught fire twice in May 2010 and January 2016. — ASH/ZS
