MEOMA urges millers not to hoard oilseed cake to raise prices
MYANMAR Edible Oil Millers Association
called for millers not to store by-product oilseed cake on purpose to raise
prices.
According to the MEOMA’s statement dated
18 September, bean, sesame, sunflower, canola, Niger seed and soybean meal,
by-products obtained after oil extraction, are the main ingredients in
feedstuff processing for the livestock sector.
The prices of oil meals are gradually
rising in the market. Consequently, the hike in oil meal resulted in high
prices of egg, meat and fish. To meet growing demand for feedstuffs, soybeans
have to be imported.
Thus, the association requested millers
not to store oil meals intentionally to manipulate the market and hike prices.
