MEOMA warns millers against large-scale oil cake hoarding
LOCAL edible oil mills have been warned
of a large-scale stock of oil cakes that may lead prices to rise, said Myanmar
Edible Oil Millers' Association (MEOMA) in a notice issued on 18 September.
Currently, prices of oil cake have gradually
risen in the domestic market, according to sources.
The surge in oil cake prices may lead to
increased prices of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products as a result of an
animal feed shortage, and drive the country to import soybean oil cake abroad,
it said.
Oil cakes from groundnuts, sesame,
sunflower, canola, and soybeans, byproducts of oil extraction, are major goods
for Myanmar's livestock sector. — Htun Htun/ ZS
