Myanmar welcomes Belarus President Mr Alexander Gregoryevich Lukashenko on first official visit



The goodwill visit of Belarusian President Alexander Gregoryevich Lukashenko is expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and expand cooperative ties between Myanmar and Belarus.

 

AT the invitation of Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior Gen­eral Min Aung Hlaing, a special aircraft carrying a high-level delegation led by Mr Alexander Gregoryevich Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, to pay an official goodwill visit to Myan­mar, started flying into the Myanmar air territory yesterday evening. The special aircraft, welcomed and flanked by three Su-30 SME jet fighters from Myanmar’s Tatmadaw (Air), landed at the Nay Pyi Taw Tatmadaw Airport.

 

At the airport, the Belarusian Presi­dent and his entourage were warmly wel­comed by Member of the State Security and Peace Commission, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Tun Oo, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, the deputy minister for Foreign Affairs, the Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Ambassador to Myanmar, and officials.

 

The high-level delegation led by the President of the Republic of Belarus was welcomed with full state protocol honours, with the Guard of Honour greeting the vis­iting heads of state along the red carpet. Ethnic cultural troupes and dance troupes welcomed the Belarusian President with dances and performances while students chanted “May the President of the Republic of Belarus be healthy; may the friendship between the two countries last long,” with waving miniature flags of both countries. State flags of both countries were hoisted along both sides of the road. The route was illuminated with the multicoloured lights. The LED posters were erected, bearing “Myanmar warmly welcomes President Aleksandr Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus”.

 

Diplomatic relations be­tween Myanmar and the Re­public of Belarus have now reached 26 years. At the invita­tion of the President of Belarus, Acting President of the Repub­lic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made two state-level goodwill visits to Belarus in 2025. Now, in return, the President of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Alexander Grego­ryevich Lukashenko, has come to Myanmar on a goodwill visit at the invitation of the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission.

 

This visit marks the first historic trip by a Belarusian President during diplomatic re­lations between the two coun­tries. During the goodwill visit, the President of the Republic of Belarus will meet the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the State Security and Peace Com­mission Chairman, to discuss matters related to strengthen­ing friendship and cooperation across various sectors. Agree­ments and memorandums of understanding between the two countries will also be signed during the visit.

 

This goodwill visit will help strengthen friendship and co­operation between the two countries, promote cultural exchanges, facilitate the shar­ing of agricultural production technologies, and further en­hance collaboration across var­ious sectors between Myanmar and Belarus. — MNA/TTA
