Myanmar to export 7,500 tonnes of Aemahta rice to Bangladesh via Pathein Port

THE Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) stated that 7,500 tonnes of Aemahta rice (five per cent broken) produced from Ayeyawady Region will be exported to Bangladesh under the Government-to-Government agreement.

A total of 2,500 tonnes will be shipped under the first batch. The rice will be sent to Bangladesh by sea only.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade between Myanmar and Bangladesh, 31 companies are allowed to convey rice to Bangladesh. A total of 7,500 tonnes of rice will be exported to Bangladesh through Pathein Port.

Yangon Port also saw rice shipments to Bangladesh in the last week of November and the first week of December with two ships.

MRF aims to meet the rice export target of three million tonnes in the current financial year 2025-2026. Myanmar’s rice export during the April-October period exceeded 1.5 million tonnes, bagging US$499 million.

Rice designated for Bangladesh’s market was processed at the Pathein Industrial Zone. Rice mills there install 400-kilowatt solar, ensuring consistent product quality and milling efficiency. Ayeyawady Region’s government is also coordinating export facilitation in the set timeframe in line with the rules and regulations of the departments concerned. — ASH/KK
