heroes who sacrificed their lives for the perpetuation of independence and
sovereignty of the State, as well as those who, after achieving sovereignty and
self-governance, courageously risked their lives in remarkable efforts. The
Memorial also aims to ensure that the heroism of these individuals is always
remembered by future generations and to inspire young people to cultivate a
sense of patriotism and a willingness to serve and sacrifice for the nation.
The names of soldiers who were
awarded the Aung San Thuriya title, the Thiha Thura title, the Thura title and
gallantry medals who sacrificed their lives while serving the State defence
duties are carved on the granite plaques on the interior of the Memorial
building. Outside the Memorial, statues have also been erected to honour five
soldiers and one civilian who received the Aung San Thuriya title. — MNA/TTA
