Pwintbyu Township Plants 57,625 Acres of Sesame in This Summer

Pwintbyu, April 27

Pwintbyu Township in Magway Region has successfully planted 57,625 acres of sesame in this summer crop planting season, exceeding the targeted acreage. The summer sesame fields are thriving due to sufficient water supply, according to the township Agriculture Department.

The township had initially planned to plant 33,737 acres of sesame during this summer season, with planting beginning in March. As of now, 57,625 acres have been cultivated, surpassing the original target.

The township Agriculture Department has advised sesame farmers to expand cultivation areas, adopt GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) methods, and use high-quality pure seeds. Farmers are also being provided with education to promote the cultivation of high-yield varieties.

Increasing sesame production will not only help meet local edible oil demand but also generate income and improve socio-economic conditions through surplus sales. Therefore, efforts to expand sesame cultivation are important, said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Staff Officer of the Township Agriculture Department.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
