Yangon Grants Heritage Status to 153 Century-Old Buildings



A total of 153 buildings in Yangon Region that are at least 100 years old have been designated as herit­age buildings, according to the Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture.


A ceremony to install heritage plaques at the U Thant House Museum and Inwa Bank, among the designated buildings, was held at the respec­tive sites on 18 August. Deputy Minister for Ho­tels, Tourism and Culture U Aye Tun and the Yan­gon Region Minister for Rakhine Ethnic Affairs attended the ceremony and installed the plaques.


Officials also inspect­ed the restoration of stat­ues of King Anawrahta, King Bayintnaung and King Alaungpaya at the National Museum (Yan­gon) in Dagon Township yesterday morning.


They also inspected the museum’s galler­ies featuring Myanmar script and manuscripts, the Yadnapon Period, ur­ban culture, royal regalia, natural history, primates and fossils. — MNA/KZL
