Bago Region expands trial cultivation of high-quality paddy varieties
BAGO Region, where agricultural and
livestock production is being expanded, is now lush with monsoon paddy fields.
The Cooperative Department in Pyu Township,
Bago Region, said that Yezin Pawsan-2 paddy has been planted on a trial basis
for the first time this year on 20 acres of the 522-acre Lunge Armarn Farm,
located at milepost 123 on the Yangon-Mandalay Highway.
During this year’s monsoon season, Thai
Hnankauk and Yezin Pawsan-2 paddy varieties have been cultivated across the
522-acre farm, with Thai Hnankauk accounting for the majority. The department
is conducting a trial of Yezin Pawsan-2 on 20 acres, while the farm’s association
is also testing Ayamin paddy on 50 acres.
“We are conducting the trial in line
with instructions to test high-quality paddy varieties. We grow seasonal crops
in the summer, monsoon and winter. After harvesting the 522 acres of monsoon
paddy, we will continue with winter crops,” said Daw Htay Htay Myint, a staff
officer from the Pyu Township Cooperative Department.
After the monsoon paddy season, winter
crops such as black gram, mung beans and groundnuts will also be cultivated. —
