Foreign tourists set to arrive at Wah Ale Resort in early Nov

FOREIGN tourists will begin visiting Wah Ale Resort, located within the Lampi Marine Na­tional Park in the Myeik Archipelago of Taninthayi Region, from 1 November, according to the resort.

Lampi Marine Na­tional Park is Myanmar’s first marine national park and is home to abundant terrestrial and marine wildlife.

Visitors can observe evergreen forests, man­groves, diverse plant and animal species in their natural habitats, and en­joy the scenic beauty of the sea, sandy beaches, islands and sea turtles. As a result, foreign tourists visit Wah Ale Resort every year, with European tourists account­ing for the largest share of visitors.

Foreign visitors to Wah Ale Resort can enjoy a variety of nature-based activities, including watch­ing sunsets over the sea and sea turtles on the sandy beaches, exploring mangrove forests, ob­serving birds, plants and coral reefs, kayaking to limestone caves, diving to explore coral reefs and marine life, relaxing on the beach and surfing.

“Wah Ale Resort is scheduled to reopen for the tourist season on 1 November this year. As we welcomed several tourists last year, we expect more European visitors to come this year as well,” said U Aung Zin Latt, managing director of the resort.

Among nature-based resorts and marine parks in South-East Asia, Wah Ale Island in Myanmar is particularly attractive be­cause it combines the nat­ural beauty of forests and the marine environment. Foreign tourists interested in nature and environmen­tal conservation are espe­cially drawn to the island, where they can observe endangered terrestrial and marine animals and rare species in one location.

Moreover, foreign trav­ellers frequently travel to Makyongalet Island, which is home to a large popula­tion of the Salone people. Visitors are particularly in­terested in learning about the Moken’s traditional cul­ture and observing Moken families living aboard their boats and engaging in tra­ditional fishing activities, including spearfishing and squid fishing.

Wah Ale Resort, re­nowned for its beautiful marine and forest envi­ronments, usually opens at the beginning of Novem­ber each year and closes in March. Last year, however, tourists continued to visit until early April.

Most of the foreign tourists who visited Wah Ale Resort came from countries including Rus­sia, the United States, In­dia, Italy, France, Switzer­land, Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, Canada, Spain and Latvia, while tourists from several Asian countries also visited the resort for leisure. — Nyein Thu (MNA)/KTZH
