Irrigation water supplied to over 34,000 acres of monsoon rice in Minbu

MORE than 34,000 acres of monsoon paddy are being supplied with irrigation wa­ter from the Aingma Diver­sion Weir in Minbu (Saku) Township and the Mezali Diversion Weir in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region, during the 2026-27 mon­soon rice-growing season.

Officials from the Min­bu District Agriculture and Livestock Supervision Committee, led by commit­tee chairman and District Administrator U Aye Lwin, inspected the distribution of irrigation water and the progress of monsoon paddy cultivation in Minbu (Saku) Township on 4 September. He also gave instructions to ensure that the targeted acreage of monsoon rice is fully cultivated.

Under the supervision of district and township officials from the Irriga­tion and Water Utilization Management Department (Irrigation), irrigation wa­ter has been distributed to 29,815 acres of monsoon paddy in the North Mann Canal and South Mann Ca­nal areas supplied by the Aingma Diversion Weir. A further 4,410 acres in the South Mone Canal area are being cultivated with water from the Mezali Diversion Weir.

Irrigation water has been supplied to local farmers in the relevant irrigation areas since 15 June. The main rice vari­eties being cultivated in­clude Sin Thukha, Manaw Thukha, Ayeyar Min and Yadana Toe.

Daw Shwe Sin Ko, the township officer in charge of the department, said relevant authorities were working together with lo­cal farmers to ensure that this year’s monsoon rice cultivation target is fully achieved and, if possible, exceeded.

For the 2026-27 cul­tivation season, a total of 34,225 acres of monsoon paddy have been targeted for cultivation under the irrigation systems of the Aingma and Mezali diver­sion weirs.

As of 4 September, about 29,000 acres of monsoon paddy had been planted in the Aingma irrigation area and 4,400 acres in the Mezali irriga­tion area, bringing the total cultivated area to approx­imately 33,400 acres. Irri­gation water will continue to be supplied adequately to farmers throughout the monsoon rice cultivation period. — Maung Maung (Minbu)/ST
