Letpadan’s farm-to-market road construction inspected

OFFICIALS from the Department of Rural Development, under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, conducted a field inspec­tion yesterday for the planned construction and laterite stone surfacing of the farm-to-market road in Tawkwe Village, Letpadan Township, Bago Region.

The project aims to enable local agricultural produce and crops to be transported to markets throughout the year at reduced transport costs.

District Head U Nyunt Zaw of the Department of Rural Development, Thay­awady District, together with the township head and responsible officials, inspected the existing road conditions and the feasi­bility of transporting con­struction materials to the project site, accompanied by members of the Farm-to-Market Road Construc­tion Committee.

The planned works include upgrading the 7,300-foot-long and 18-foot-wide road with a one-foot-nine-inch laterite stone surfacing, as well as con­structing 11 pipe culverts along the road. The district head coordinated the nec­essary measures for the smooth implementation of the project.

The construction of the Tawkwe Village farm-to-market road and related works will be undertaken by Thuta Phyo Company with a budget of K276.323 million from the Union Fund for the 2026-2027 fi­nancial year.

Upon completion, the project is expected to en­able year-round transport of various locally produced crops from approximately 500 acres of farmland in Tawkwe, Kyaungsu and Kyogon villages to mar­kets. The road will benefit approximately 419 house­holds and 1,817 people in the three villages, accord­ing to the Department of Rural Development, Thay­awady District. — Moe Moe (DRD)
