Magway neem pesticide factory prepares to produce high-value products for export

NEEM Pesticide Facto­ry in Magway preparing to produce around eight types of value-added prod­ucts and export them to domestic and internation­al markets.

The Neem Pesticide Factory in Magway, Mag­way Region, is reported­ly preparing to produce around eight types of high-value products and export them to domestic and international mar­kets. The factory manu­factures natural fertilizers from neem seed husks and neem pesticides from crude neem oil. In addi­tion, plans are underway to expand the production of high-value consumer products such as neem liquid hand soap, mouth­wash, shower gel and neem anti-itch ointment.

“The factory was established in 2017. Its primary objectives are to make use of the abun­dance of neem trees in the Dry Zone to produce and utilize locally sourced nat­ural pesticides and fertiliz­ers, create employment opportunities for local people, reduce the use of chemical products to pro­tect the environment, and reduce foreign currency expenditure,” said U Yin Tun, Director of the Mag­way Region Agriculture Department.

The factory is currently leased to Myanmar Pes­ticide Company Limited for 30 years under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) system. It procures raw neem seeds from Magway, Natmauk and Kyaukpadaung town­ships to produce and distribute neem urea, neem-coated urea fertilizers and natural pesticides.

Construction of the factory began in 2011 on a 5.32-acre plot along the Magway-Natmauk Road, and preparations for product registration and international exports are currently underway. — ASH/TH
