Motorists, passengers urged to stop littering on YGN-MDY Expressway

THE Yangon-Mandalay Expressway maintenance staff have reported that large quantities of rub­bish are being cleared from the expressway and its verges every day because some motorists and passengers dispose of waste indiscriminately.

 

Some people throw rubbish from moving ve­hicles or leave it behind when stopping tempo­rarily. Others eat by the roadside and abandon their food packaging and other waste instead of taking it with them. This occurs despite designat­ed bins being provided at toll gates, security check­points and rest camps.

 

The litter not only makes the expressway unsightly but can also pose a safety risk when stray dogs drag rubbish onto the road. Mainte­nance engineers and workers also have to spend additional time clearing the waste, adding to their workload.

 

Expressway users are therefore urged to take their rubbish with them or dispose of it properly in designated areas, helping to keep the expressway clean and safe.

 

The Yangon-Manda­lay Expressway, a major Union highway, stretches about 365 miles and three furlongs from Yangon to Mandalay. — TWA/MKKS
