All Monsoon Groundnut Acres Harvested in Kyunhla Township

All groundnut fields cultivated during the monsoon season in Kyunhla Township, Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region, have been fully harvested, according to the Township Agriculture Department.

The township had planned to cultivate 7,582 acres of monsoon groundnut this year, of which 7,256 acres were successfully cultivated. All the cultivated acreage has now been harvested, with an average yield of 43.53 baskets per acre, said Daw Myint Myint Yee, head of the Township Agriculture Department.

“Of the 7,582 acres planned for monsoon groundnut cultivation this year, we were able to cultivate 7,256 acres. All the groundnut fields have now been harvested, producing an average of 43.53 baskets per acre. Farmers are now preparing to grow winter groundnut as a second crop,” she added.

The Township Agriculture Department provided agricultural technical assistance to farmers cultivating monsoon groundnut through field visits, including measures to ensure access to quality and pure seeds, the provision of agricultural training and the organization of field demonstrations.

The expansion of high-yielding oilseed crops such as groundnut in Kyunhla Township is expected to contribute to meeting local edible oil demand and improving local oilseed production, according to the Township Agriculture Department.—Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
